GESVAL is a company created by the University of Liège, whose key role is the transfer of technology to companies. Its objectives are to accelerate the technology transfer process, ensure a source of income for the University and the CHU and to accompany researchers within the framework of technology transfer. It is chiefly responsible for:

  • The management of maturation projects,
  • The management of the patent and licence portfolio,
  • Support for the creation of spin-offs in consultation with other the other players involved in the innovation,
  • The management of shareholdings (in particular through its participation in the spin-offs' boards of directors).

GESVAL is therefore the exclusive and essential player in the economic exploitation of the know-how stemming from the University and CHU de Liège.

GESVAL'S MISSIONS

To ensure the transfer of the University’s and the CHU’s intellectual property to the market by highlighting

the technological and innovative advances of the University and the CHU.

To encourage and bring together new entrepreneurs and job providers by working alongside them.

Together with these market leaders, Gesval elaborates the development plans by integrating the transfer of technology with the industrial development project.

THE RESULTS OF THE RESEARCH CAN BE PATENTED AND PROTECTED, OR NOT. THEY MAY BE:

  • a substance, a molecule, a material, etc.;
  • a machine, an electronic device, etc.;
  • software with a technical purpose or not;
  • a method of work, analysis or not;
  • a trademark, including that of ULiège.

Gesval negotiates the licences, drafts them and supports the holder in the transfer of technology or creation of companies. Gesval then ensures the follow-up of the licences and their evolution.

Gesval redistributes the income from the development to the beneficiaries according to the rules in force in the various institutions.
